I found this site while I was doing some R&D for my second motoro pond. The first one I built from a cinder block frame lined with padding and standard pond liner. It held about 200 gallons at a depth of 12 inches. I had 5 motoro rays in there of various sizes (8-12 inches). Unfortunately, I moved after about a year of operation and had to sell everything.

I am finally in my new house and and planning on doing something a bit bigger (more surface area, probably not more depth) and possibly involve some additional species.

My biggest problem with my previous pond was keeping the plants healthy. Since it was in the basement there was only a tiny bit of natural light and all of the lighting solutions I implemented didn't keep the plants in great shape. Has anyone had success with plants in all non-natural lighting?

welcome to MFK.. I too have the same issues with my pond and light.. I have the pond in the basement druing winter.. i use a light over the pond during that time..and it just keeps the plants from going completely dormant.. :grinno: but everything goes outside in late spring...the whole gold fish pond and plants{lilys} etc and they are all in good shape by summer..

welcome! check our our pond section!
