I stumbled upon this wonderful site and want to introduce myself. I've been keeping aquariums since I was given a goldfish bowl with 2 fish in the 4th grade or so. Of course they kicked the bucket, but it led to the next tank, then the next, and so on. I've had 2 ciclid tanks (55 gal, Jack Dempsey) and 30 gal (smaller from this above "variety". I've also enjoyed community tanks of docile to aggressive. I've bred (by accident) some fish that are apparently difficult to bread, so set up a 10 gal for the babies.
Now, after several years, I'm down to a 75 gal which is based upon an Amazon River Basin ecosystem. I also have a 30 gal upstairs that I was to plant and landscape. I have the substrate in, an appropriate filter system and heater. I have 7 small tetras (can't remember off the top of my head what kind) that have survived the first few weeks despite some funky Ph changes that are now basically under control. Oh yeah, our 75 gal used to be a reef tank that went really well for about 4 yrs, then had an algea bloom due to a deffective heater so there went that. It was very sad. I get very attached to my fish and the ones I have now (all small tetra, botia, hatchett and cory's) have been around for at least 3 yrs.
I have to find out exactly what type of lighting system I need for the 30 gal for the plants I'm interested in and would love any advice. I've always been pretty old school and have avoided some of the more extensive products, and have been very successful with that.
This time, I would like to see this tank progress into an artistic planted vision and eventually get a school of rummy nose to be the only inhabitants.
I have lots of things (filters and such) that I would love to trade. Most of the filters are simply missing a part that is easily replaced, I just can't seem to find the time right now.
I would love to trade for driftwood and/or live plants that are grasses, and ? (still doing my research. Any helpful hints or suggestions would be welcome. This weekend I will try to dig out all of my old stuff so I can let you all know what I may have for trade.
Happy to meet everyone!
