Hey folks - it took a little while but I finally found this site - and it's been a blessing already - my girlfriend bought me a polypterus for christmas yesterday - as well as the little albino oscar with strange color pigments in his fins that I've been eyeing for weeks.
I have 2 tanks going right now - a 90g and a 40 g - the 90g is a little crowed right now - when I bought it came with a ridiculous pile of fish - which is another story altogether - but here's what I have right now:
In my 90:
Fred - my 12 inch red oscar (the whole reason I'm even into fish, I had a 40 with generic fish and came across him, so I bought him a 90 g)
A 14 inch walking catfish - I threw out a offer at my LFS for one they had in with their turtles and it worked (they had 2)
2 LARGE Plecos - A foot each
A medium pleco - about 7 inches
1 5 inch Geophagus - One of the coolest fish ever
MY POLYPTERUS - He came in to my LFS on a Tuesday - the gf bought him yesterday (thursday) I'm in love (and the gf is not bad either)
A pair of breeding convicts - they are on their third litter since I got them a couple of months ago
A high fin spotted catfish - I'm not sure of the name - but it's the closest thing I have found to him online (maybe 4 inches)
A 4 inch rainbow shark - named Maurice - a funny little guy
theres also a couple of little convicts left over from the last litter - they are still maybe only an inch each
I know it's crowded in there - before I start catching the wrath of other fish keepers - When I bought the 90 it came with a 2 foot Pacu in it and 2 ten inch Oscars, as well as 2 Jack Dempsey and a slew of other fish - it was insanely crowded - the guy who owned it originally abandoned it at an ex gfs house - I've been slowy trying to thin it out - finding good homes for the fish - I took in a foot long pleco from a girl at work - he was in a 20 g
By the end in my 90 I want to have - Fred, the walking catfish, My polypterus, the high fin catfish ( I only see him very rarely), the bredding convicts, just one large pleco, the Geophagus and the rainbow
In my 40g I have:
2 Weather Loaches - they could be my new favorite fish (if it wasn't for the polypterus, gosh he's cool) - they are very awesome (maybe 4 inches each)
2 flounders - one is maybe the size of a dime and the other is maybe the size of a quarter
one medium pleco - cause plecos are awesome too
a long fin albino bristlenose pleco - he might be an inch and a half
two of the baby convicts - just so they are not catfish or polypterus food ( these guys and the albino pleco are in a mesh box inside the tank until they get a little bigger)
and the new little Albino Oscar - (he's the reason the ALFBNP and the convicts are seperated - he is awfully interested in them)
The 90 has brownish and white rock with driftwood and some bigger rocks and caves
The 40 is Number 1 Silica sand (super washed) and has a few fake plants and caves in it
I don't bother with fake plants in the 90 because I have an Oscar who just loves destroying decorations - While he's extremely gentle with everything in the tank (even the baby convicts) he thinks he's Martha Stewart or Rachel Ray or something - he loves changing the layout of his tank
I don't have any plans to put anything else in the 40 - maybe another weather loache or flounder - Once the Oscar gets a little bigger I'll move him into the big tank - I'm already on the hunt for another tank, at least a 55g, just so everything will be comfortable - the 90 I have was initially only bought for Fred - but because the tank came with some much it's a bit crowded - I'll get it all straightened away - I only bought the 90 a couple of weeks ago.
With all that said - I feel like I wrote a book for an intro - I look forward to being a part of this forum
