Hey guys (and gals!)

Just dropping in to look around and get some construction ideas.

We've been running a 180gal SPS reef for a few years, but really miss keeping stingrays and decided to set up another tank for bamboo sharks and cortez rays. We're leaning strongly towards building an indoor pond on a concrete slab below (seems to fit their needs better, costs substantially less, without the same risks of glass blowing out)... but we're still doing leg work and figuring out the details :) Trying to keep a 10k cap on this tank's initial budget (including all filtration) and aiming for 350-400g if we go with a tank, 600-700g if we go the pond route... should be a fun project!

I'll be sure to post updates here. We're almost positively doing a pond instead of a tank. I need to occasionally sanitize the floors etc and Tenecor claims that acrylic can craze if exposed to pretty much anything, even ammonia... and after reading about glass tanks blowing out here, I just can't stomach buying a bigger glass setup and having nightmares over "what ifs".

We're strongly leaning towards 8' long, 4' wide, 2.5' tall but only filled with 1.5' of water.
Once it's up, I'll be moving the 180gal down there too and plumbing half of the drains into a 25gal trashcan surge (bulkhead near top but plumbed to near the bottom so it'll start a siphon when the trashcan fills to the bulkhead and immediately dump all of the water into pond)

We're looking at doing three 100gal plastic sumps.
In the first one will be the skimmers on small PVC stands for proper depth (pond and other half of 180 overflows will drain directly here)
The second one will be all macro-algae (most likely only chaeto),
The third one will have the ATO (dripping kalkwasser) and I've picked up the supplies to build a 6' tall fluidized bed reactor that will sit in sump in case anything goes wrong with the seals (will be our first acrylic project!)

It'll be a while before really cool pictures will start surfacing, because alot of this project will be funded by part of year-end bonus which will be in March. Figured this is the time to plan out the details. :) :)

welcome to MFK.. sounds like you have some great plans ahead... looking forward to you sharing them with us... glad you joined the forum.. if you have any questions about the forum just ask.. enjoy...
