Yes that is a crenicichla species aka pike cichlid... probably a saxatilis type or possibly a froghead type kinda rusty at IDing. BTWs this needs to the crenicichla section. Nice pike they are my favorite cichlid?
 
hmm i saw him at my lfs and it looks kindda cool, so i bought him without knowing what fish he was :D
isit a steal if i bought him for $10???

and one more question.. what are the suitable tank mates for this fish? im new to cichlids haha
 
That's good price for the cheapest species, but idk which one yours is since I'm assuming you recently introduced it because he's showing stress coloring? Depends on tankmates some are very aggressive others aren't. nothing delicate... what were you thinking of keeping him with?
 
I see he's with a pacu which should be fine 4 awhile until the pacu grows. Make sure you get a hiding spot 4 the pike though it helps reduce stress and makes it more happier

Hey bro! after much observation his attacking/ chasing the pacus all around even though the pacus are bigger than him? are they born territorial?

Pacus will probably be more passive than he will. I would get him in a temp different tank or something to atleast house him in
