also the white stuff ont he tip of there lip is from bashing against the glass.. usually happens when they are in to small of a tank...

research is key in fish keeping. Everytime I do something different, I get multiple sources to look over. I look at the axelrod fish encylopedia, various books and websites on the specific fish, and most importantly, even if I think I know everything there is to know, I ask the people on this site. I ask some of the simplest dummy questions on here just to be 100% sure of my next move, whether it's my new pike cichlid or filtration for my future green terror. If multiple people say on this site to do something, it's usually a good idea. I've had luck with them. You'd have more fun with a larger tank anyways. It will be less work than a smaller tank, assuming you're gonna get a big filter. Consistant water changes are a given, but you wont have to do one every day like you're going to have to do with the 90. Good luck buddy.

I understand about the filtration... Im not trying to be an ******* as well... I have them in a 70 g with an ac 70 and a sponge filter. I change my water once a week... I know they can eat PELLETS.... BUT LIKE I SAID BEFORE I HAVE HAD THEM NOW FOR 2 MONTHS... SO THEY ARE USE TO LIVE FEEDERS..I KNOW AND I RESPECT WHAT THE PEOPLE SAY ON HERE CAUSE THEY KNOW THERE ****... IM JUST ASKING ADVICE ON THERE DIET THATS ALL.. BUT THANKS FOR THE OTHER ADVICE..

For live feeders you may vary the diet of the feeders to load them up with different nutrients. For previously frozen feeders you may stuff them with different cichlid sticks or pellets.

Happy New Year Have a great one!

if they eat feeders off the surface you have no problem at all. feed one at a time till they smash the surface... dont feed them for a day and then throw in a chunk of shrimp.... they will either take it or spit it out.... keep at it and dont go back to feeders till you have them on shrimp..... i will PM you

Dude you have to learn to take the constructive criticism from others YOU asked for insight on your problem and many people gave you their ideas and suggestions. Dont tell them NO after they give you their two cents.

If you "know" that HITH is brought on by lack of nutrition why keep feeding them feeders? Those dont have hardly any nutrional value at all. Your question should be, "How do I ween them off live food?".
