Looks like a black to me. Do you remember what color the chin barbels were? I'm guessing they're black based on the rest of his coloration, which I think would make him a black bullhead
 
A look at the chin barbels would help. Black bullheads have dark barbels, yellows have white barbels. Going by what I see though I'm gonna agree with the others and say its a black.

That fish doesn't seem to have quite the sharp distinction between fin rays and fin membrane color that typical blacks have. Black bullheads do not naturally occur in CT, though it could of course be a stocked fish.

My money is on yellow, but there's at least a chance that it's a brown.
 
see thats the thing we had browns in the pond too they were much more mottled in color
 
Browns are usually mottled, but not always. They can be plain like that fish, or even have silver specks.
