Hello my name is nick , ive been a lurker on this site for a while now never posted anything though. its a great site for the fish lovers. heres my delema . ive had fish since i was about 12 ,i actauly worked in a local pet store from the ages of 13-15 but that was 10 years ago ,ive kinda forgot a lot of stuff since then. but ive always has african ciclids since then and really thats all ive ever done in the past years (including breeding them). i now have a 70 gallon tank with a sinadonis cat (or however you spell it) and 2 chiclids that are a breeding pair which i plan on getting rid of. well long story short i dont want to do africans anymore ,all they do is eat eachother..lol..but i also have my hands on a 240gal that i just got. now i need some help with stocking it . i want somthing big, unique, not to expensive and legal to florida. i really only want to put in about 4-5 fish. well if you have any ideas let me know it would be much help. thanks-nick ;)

PBASS!!!!!! and welcome to MFK!!!

Snooken21 is a vendor here on MFK. He has a lot of rare and beautiful fish.

I like the large SA species ideas. There are lots of different large SA species. I've always wanted p-bass and will probably get them in a few years when I have a bigger tank. A Fei Feng/flagtail/prochilodus-whatever you want to call it-would be cool. They get pretty large (up to around 18" so I've heard) and are somewhat uncommon. They're a peaceful grazer (but don't like conspecifics) and a pretty slow growing, but they are really cool fish. I'm glad I got one when I had the chance.

I second pbass. And of course you could get some larger species of bichir ( I believe they are legal in florida.) such as polypterus endlicheri.

I think that would make an awesome horde tank with 15 mylossoma and a big feature like a lima shovelnose.

Welcome to MFk Nick. a word of warning, this site and this hobby are more addicting than crack and woman combined:ROFL:. once you start posting here, you may find it impossible to stop

do you know what the measurements of your new tank are?? if its a standard size tank, your options for a tank that size are limitless. you could have any 4-5 of most cichlids except for the meanest of the mean in there. some ideas for community cichlids are firemouths, severums, black belt, jack dempsey, oscar, blood parrots and many many other pure and cross-breeds. and you can still add a nice choice of bottom feeders such as loaches or bichirs or knives if you choose the fish wisely.

for just one or a pair of cichlids which is always real nice too, theres jags, freddys, red devils, flowerhorns.

these are the basic fish, not too expensive and commonly available. basic easy fish that are fun to care for and can withstand a mistake or two you may make along the way while getting into the swing of keeping monsters.

I would go with...
-1 Midas
-1 fastae (preferably female)
-1 Texas
-1 mota
-5 clown loaches
-5 red hook silver dollars
