Well hello all. A little about me: I'm a 20 year old female college student majoring in zoology with a concentration in fishes. Right now I'm serving an internship with the fisheries lab at North Carolina's Museum of Science. Before I moved out of my parent's home I kept small fw tanks mostly platys, tetras, betas, loaches, african frogs etc.

Now that I'm in my own apartment I've branched out. I have two 38 gal tanks one brackish, one freshwater. In the brackish I keep mollies, 1 figure 8 puffer, and gobies. The fw tank is empty right now but it's cycling for a lurker puffer, I haven't decided which species to keep. Right now it's between the suvatti, congo, and palembang. As you can see at the moment puffers are my main interest.

Fish aside, I'm a dedicated ferret owner. I have two fuzzbuts Dakota and Gizmo. I also have my cat, DJ, who enjoys playing whack a weasel with the ferrets lol. I'm an avid horse back rider and the owner of a 3 year old black and white paint horse. In the process of training him which has proven a bit difficult because at the moment he lives three hours away on my aunts farm while I'm in school.

Well that's about it I think. I joined this forum because I've found you guys to be quite the informative bunch and I am way jealous of some of ya'lls tanks. Sadly, it's just not feasible right not for me to keep a 300gal tank, otherwise I'd have a Fahaka (dream fish!). I consider myself somewhat educated in the keeping of fish but I learn new stuff everyday. Let's face it, it'd be boring if I didn't. One of the things I love about this hobby...there is always some way to improve and something new to learn.

welcome to MFK... nice to meet you... and i quess you have a horse too.. i have three quarter horses and two belgians... sounds like your on your way to really becoming involved in the fishkeeping hobby.. any questions you have about mfk ..just ask... always here to help..:Dwelcome again

Thanks for the welcome. Sounds like you have a nice group of horses I love quarters and belgians, although I haven't been around belgians as much as I'd like. Do you ride/drive the belgians? Usually here you see paints, quarters, and arabs. And yeah I have been bitten by the fishy bug. It started with a general interest and then this internship has really snowballed it. I.E. Yesterday my cousin told me she was coming to my college next year and wanted to know if i wanted to split an apartment with her. My immediate thougt was less rent + more space equals larger tanks. lol Regardless I think I'm in the right place, this is definitely a very commited fish keeping community. It's what I like to see. My fish are just as important to me as my ferrets and cats. They deserve the best housing, care, and food I can provide for them. If you don't believe just ask my brackish tank who regluarly dine on chopped up clams and cocktail shrimp. lol They eat better than I do!

I use to show, breed and ride and drive the belgians...now they are pasture ornaments..lol.. they have retired to eating grass and taking life in stride... we loved showing them etc but soon realized that breeding them was not really a good thing.. since i am an animal lover i started holding on to the babies... soon i was up to 19 horses.. and also i realized through talking to other breeders that they were mostly only interested in the show horse..all the others they would send to auction.. i just could not get into that.. so i found homes for a few of mine..kept the rest.. and love just seeing them out grazing.. so that brings me to the fish hobby.. i love that too.. So it is very nice to meet you... and if you have any questions ..let me know.. i will try to help...

Sounds Great, Hi and welcome!
