HI all my name is James and I live in carson,ca. Well I just started freshwater at first with a community tank and now which cichlids. Here are my tank set ups and want to know what you guys think. Also I have a few questions.

55gal penguin 200 and emperor 280
2 x Balloon Molly (Poecilia latipinna hybrid)
2 x Sailfin Molly (Poecilia latipinna)
11 x Zebra Danio (Danio rerio)
2 x Giant Danio (Perilampus aequipinnatus)
3 x Dojo Loach (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus)
6 x Swordtail (Xiphophorus hellerii)
2 x Platy (Xiphophorus maculatus)
1 x Corydoras incolicana (Corydoras incolicana)
6 x Guppy (Poecilia reticulata)
3 x Goldfish (Carassius auratus)

100gal magnum 350
2 x Tiger Oscar (Astronotus ocellatus)
2 x Giant Danio (Perilampus aequipinnatus)
1 x Clown Knife (Notopterus chilata)
1 x Clown Loach (Chromobotia macracanthus)
2 x Common Pleco (Pterygoplichthys pardalis)
1 x Redhead Severum (Heros sp. Rotkeil)

And here are my questions.

1-How did you guys start with the mf?
2-How hard was it to care for your mf?
3-How much did it cost you in the long run from baby fish to monster fish? Like with the fish, food, tank and so on.
4-Is it work it?

Hi! Welcome to MFK!

Answers
1. I sort of thought they were cool and amassed tanks... then an indoor pond.
2. If you count the cash spent at first, it sucked... now, not so bad!
3. For my RTC/Pacu... $6000 and ongoing
4. Is it work? What's good that isn't? Nothing is rewarding that doesn't take some sort of work!

My suggestions for your tank would be to ditch the Goldies, and the common plecos. They are more waste than anything.

And get your clown loaches some friends. They prefer groups of 6 or more.

Other than that, IMO, looking good. :headbang2

Depends on how you feed them. but some fish for example some catfish will grow like 11 inches in 2 months. so there are alot of options but its not to costly.

Like? Because I want to end up with enough fish to fill up 5,000-10,000gal in 5 yrs
easy..i can get u a baby pima

hhaha...welcome monsters are definitely worth keeping and it may cost less than 50 cents a day to feed most monsters

I see but how did you guys start to accumilate them? Did you guys start off with a small tank and then kept upgrading?

I think most people here would tell you to start with a large tank and let them (your fish) grow into it, coz to transport so many large fish over time will get more and more difficult especially if you have to dismantle your old tank(s) to fit the new one in...

Although as for myself, i did start with small tank i wish i would have waited and started with a bigger one right from the start to save me having to get rid of a lot of small tanks once i moved which equals a waste of money...

Any way, to answer your 4 questions:
1-How did you guys start with the mf?Started decorating my small tank for my fish and realized it was too difficult to do every thing i wanted and decided to go big... also coz at the time i didn't realize i actually owned monster fish of sorts
2-How hard was it to care for your mf? Not hard after having done my research, in fact its in some ways easier, especially during straight up water changes because i just hook the siphon to take water out and leave another hose in to put water back in (no need to lug buckets of water around)
3-How much did it cost you in the long run from baby fish to monster fish? Like with the fish, food, tank and so on.Too much for me to want to consider, although definitely worth it imho
4-Is it work it? Its only work when you stop enjoying it... like the saying goes, if you enjoy what you do, you will never work a day in your life :)
