here
Hello everyone! Been lurking here for quite some time and right off the bat let me say that this is THE site. No other site can compete. Some very knowledgeable people here with some badass fish and setups.
So anyway I thought it was time to intro. myself and get some advice.
Here's what I got:

150 gal. with tinfoil barbs, tiger barbs, silver dollars, pictus cats, and a royal panaque. I know, not very "monster" but fun to watch and makes a nice centerpiece in the living room.

125 gal. with a 12" Tiger Shovelnose. This is temporary, working on making room for a 460 gal. for him and a few other monsters. CAN'T WAIT!!!

3 x 20 gal. One for quarrantine and two for breeding feeders.

Dual Eheim Professional 2 Thermofilters on the 125 and 150.

So here's my problem. I recently moved my TSN from a 50 to the 125 and like an idiot, I used a net. Of course his pectoral spines got all kinds of stuck in the net. I should have known 'cause I did the same thing with one of my pictus cats a long time ago. I did my best to set him free but in the end I had to cut away as much of the net as I could but still left him with a little. Now he has f***in' bracelets. My question is the best way to catch these types of cats so that I can remove the rest of the netting and so that I learn not to do that again. TIA

if you can get him all i can suggest is that you get a large towel and soak it in tank water then you can hold him down in that. you wont get hurt and neither will he

Getting him is what I need help with.

This one is something that came up recently in a slightly different way. Use a black garbage sack to grab him. put the open sack in the tank ang slowly get him to shy into it. when he does lift the mouth of the bag up out of the water pour out most of the water, place the bag in a storage bin, from there you imobilize him, I am not sure I would use a towel though as I have had problems with the spines getting caught in the threads. I would get some one else to do the trimming while I held the fish with my thumb in it's mouth and a firm but gentle grip on it's lower jaw with my index finger. I would immobilize the rest of the fish by holding it down against the bottom of the bin with a thick unused wet sponge, when done I would dose it with something like melafix or amquel plus to help restore it's slime coat.

By the way, glad you stopped lurking, heheh, welcome to MFK.

Your 150g sounds like a nice center piece indeed.

Thanks Guppy. I figured it would be a 2 person job. I just happen to have a black bag so I'll get a buddy over tomorrow and give it a go. I'll post the results.

Good luck with your fish, i hope everything works out ok. Your centerpeice tank sounds interesting, I would like to see pix! You have some monsters in that tank.......Not all monsters have to be massive in size:D
