The reason i ask this, is because i was talking to a petstore owner and he told me that is not so good to have a uv sterilizer, he said fish will not be much healthy than one in a tank with out one....advise plis..i have a 36 watt uv sterilizer for my 180g

I was reading a lot about UV sterilizers lately because I just got one. Some people say that UVs weaken the fishes immune system, so when you stop using the UV, the fish is more susceptible to get disease. I read that there is no evidence to prove this claim.

Yeah..i want to ve sure...i read that uvs kills the good and bad bacterial, but good baterial is more useful if u have a plant tank...lolzz this is crazy.

I have two JBJ reaction filters on my planted discus tank, I haven't noticed any difference when the sterilizers are on or off. The main reasons I know of for them is to fight algae blooms, and stoping the spreading of diseases. I honestly don't see how that claim would make any sense. That would be like saying don't keep your fish in perfect water because when you put them in poor quality water they will die. Your water quality should always be good, the fact you preventing the spread of disease should not have effect on your fish's capability to fight disease.

Uv sterilizer would be just as good for a flowerhorn tank as it would any other tank. As long as you have an established filter on the tank id assume you will have enough beneficial bacteria on that.

mmm thanks guy...alot of people have different opinion about uvs..i would stay with mine on since a havent notice any problem lol...thanks.
