Hi there people.

I've been a member for awhile. Joined through MFK. I've been wanting to get a DSLR camera and i was looking at the Nikon D40 or D50. Probably the D40 because its cheaper. Anyone have any comments on either of the cameras especially the D40? Thats all and HELLO....

I would stick with the D50 especially for aquarium photography, you can't use nearly as many lenses on the d40, for example, the macro lenses that are a big part of this type of photography.

ohh and :welcome:

So you can't use any macro lense? I thought you could but you just had to manually focus??!

You can manual focus yes, but you will also have no metering. You will have to use manual setting, and your only help is the range finder dot in the display to tell you if its in focus. Its kinda tricky to use well for regular photography(as I'm learning now with my new non cpu lens on the D70) and, almost impossible for fish. I wouldn't bother at all. Auto focus is a must for fish IMO.

You can use 1 macro lens the AF-S 105mm 2.8 vr macro. But its quite pricey, more than a new D40 for sure.
