I own a 90 gallon SA Cichlid tank and have a question about filtration. I currently run an XP3 and wanted to connect my Magnum 350 using only the polishing insert. Could that create a spike or mini cycle?

No your fine just rinse pad I'm warm tap and for a 90gal 1 xp3 ime isn't enough filtration or even agitation so the mag will help!

I somewhat disagree here, He's double the filtration required for a 90. If he's running the jet spray i'd be willing to bet it's got tonnes of current too. Bottom line, adding another filter won't create any sort of spike as long as you still run the xp3. That being said, it depends on the stock in the tank, heavily stocked tank would require more filtration. On my 75 gallon tanks, i run an eheim 2028 and 2213, and the second tank has an xp2, ac110 and ac70. I overstock my tanks though. I would say it's always better to over filter, but if you have light stocking you're fine

Welcome to MFK! He's not close to double the filtration needed for a 90 with and xp3. Real world gph is listed at 187 with clean media.

They equates to 2x an hour, which, while not impossible, is on the low side. Adding another filter/power head will certainly help and give you a little insurance.

Exactly and a spray bar will slow the gph down even more.....
