Hi fin red wolf fish questions

Im looking to get a 40 gallon breeder or a 55 gallon tank(maybe both) and I have always wanted to keep something aggressive and predatory and since pirhana's are illegal where I live I have been looking into getting erythrinus erythrinus(red wolf fish).I have read where the red hi fin is more active than hoplias malabaricus and its smaller too which is inline with my tank options.

Would a 40 breeder be good enough for life?Im looking to get a fluval 305 for filtration also and maybe a sponge filter to go with it,or should I get something more powerfull?

Umm well I don't know much about red wolf fish but if the hi fin is smaller then it is definitely capable to spend its life in a 55. Maybe a 40. But they are aggressive so there are few tankmates.

I think you should just go with a 55g instead of the 40g.Bigger is betters
