hi lady and gents and all inbetween lol
i need to gather some info for a fish that will in my tank by the weekend i'm going to be house a fire & ice channa but info on this fish is quiet hard to find.
first these are the fish thats he's going in with .
two green severums about 5 inches (boistious)
1 texas cichlid 4 inches ( he beautiful but defo the boss)
1 leopard catus pleco (the greatest looking pleco )
and finially
my pride and joy is ornatepinnis bichir 9 inch long eating machine.
If there there problems no worries there's another two 5 footers ready to move the other fish around.

so here's the bits i need to find out
what kind of tempture can this beautifull snakehead live in.
Can you see any problems with the tank mates
what family of snake head is it ?

but the temp is most important to me at the mo the tank is a steady 24c and every thing is happy and feeding great . this tank been set up about 3 years no problems no dieseses just the odd little bust between male green severum and texas surprice surprice lol

ps all info would be surley taken

I can answer something on Texas only!
Texas prefer temp. between 27-30! and would only perform their best when he is living in an individual tank on his own!
he have to be the boss of the tank! any intruders could result in a fierce fight!

It is an undescribed species and therefore has no scientific name. Fire n ice prefer lower temps being subtropical (from Myanamar I think.) Lots of plants including floating cover. Dependent on size it would probablly hide a lot because of the other types of fish that you have (advisable to be kept with other fire and ice only). Does not grow very large maybe 7-9inch i think.

HI,

the channa is not the right fish for you ! You cannot give him what it needs. Stay with trhe cichlids or give them away and take a group of channa.

thanks for all the support espeically (brucki) instead of shunning me mate as you know much information is what i asked for maybe you did'nt read ALL of my post there's another two 5 foot tank one my hospital tank and the other is my plant growing tank
so dont take you post very well
you quote

if your saying i should have more snakeheads on there own fine not a problem
but be abit more clearer when you send your threads
so what do you mean by your statment then kind sir.

Hi......

The Ice and Fire is a so called dwarf snakehead!

But.......

The fish is very agressive to other Ice and Fire!

So,If you do not want to have any trouble, and when you did not keep other snakeheads before, than Ice and fire is not the right choice!

i have kept more than 30 species of Channa until now, and I bred a lot of them.........also the Ice and fire, and believe me:

It is one of the most aggressive species of dwarf snakeheads I have ever kept!

It is one of the most inappropriate snakehead to start with!

Better you start with some kind of Channa gachua....

Also your Tankmates are no good fish to keep a snakehead with......

snakeheads, exspecially i they were kept alone ,are calm ,sometimes shy fish.....your cichlids are not......

The bichir will be amused,if you give him a friend to play with........but it will not last for long time....

It is always better to keep snakeheads in a tank for their own....

At the moment I am keeping 7 adults and about 40 youngster...

They live in a basement room at a temperature about 16-17°C......and they feel fine and are eating!

They breed at temperature about the lower 20`s.....

To keep them at higher temperatures all time might be a problem....

regards
Pascal
