I've been a member for a while and this is my first post! My fiancé and I recently converted our freshwater 30g to saltwater. Here's one of my first attempts at photographing these fish.

An excellent result :-)

What are your impressions of the Canon Rebel xti ?
I have the same make and model with the 18-55 kit lens ;)

The XTi is a good entry level DSLR. I've been using it for a couple of years and I have been happy with it. I would like to upgrade the body at some time to something a little bit better. I'm thinking a 7D or 50D would be a nice upgrade. My lenses include a Canon 70-200 f/4 USM L, Canon 50 f/1.4 USM, and a Tokina 11-16 f/2.8.

welcome and congrats and good luck on the switch to saltwater. :)

is this with tank-only lighting? it looks well-exposed to me. next time, try getting the fish facing the cam, or better yet, in mid-turn facing the cam. love those action shots!

looking forward to more.

I originally tried with the tank only lighting but I couldn't get the aperture I wanted without very high ISO or blur. We'll be upgrading the lighting eventually so I won't have to use such an extreme flash setting. These shots are with my 580exII at ETTL +3. Here's another angle. :)

Welcome to APF, Chris!
About shooting fast moving fishes with solid color(like the most of marine ones)...you'll definitely need an external flashes for good results!
