Hey everyone I just wanted to say hello and say I am very new to the Cichlid. I have a 30 gal tank with Fred my new fish and because he was so agressive at the store they told me he probly shouldnt have any fish buddys. So I have a small catfsh in with him and so far they are doing wonderfly altho its simply been 4 days hehe. I am a little concerned that he stays hiden under the log and he really never swims around at all. In the store he was the tank bully and he had the others all in a corner.... so I took him and of course he was in a smaller tank at the store and he has his own very much larger tank here but hes so shy. He even peeks to see if im watching him and slowly backs away and hes very cute! It took me 2 hours to decide on him and his personality was so very different when he was at the store. I do have alot of places for him to hide and call his own, alot of little bushes as well. I do hope maybe he just needs a couple weeks to fully feel like hes ok or maybe a female to help protect? I did so much intel on this type of fish but I know nothing at all!!!!!! Any advice would be great. Oh by the way the catfish name is buddy and hes about the same size as fred is now but will probly grow to be 5 inchs as will fred. He is a brown speckled peacock about 1or 2 inches long now and I am told he will get larger. I cant seem to really find a good picture of what he looks like but I have taken a few and will post some as I get a chance! I am so happy to have found your site and I look forword to hanging out with all of you.
Hugs Dora

Dora, Welcome to MFK! You should start a Guadalupe river native fish tank. Guadalupe bass would be cool.
For those that are not familiar with the Guadalupe river it is spring fed, very clear, and is the southernmost trout fishery in North America. It also has unique species such as the Guadalupe bass and many others. Nice place to float down the river in a tube, kayak, or canoe.
