About 4 years ago my elderly neighbor, Rudy, lost his wife from a lingering illness. Rudy is a special kind of guy, feeding, bathing, and doing everything he could for his wheelchair-bound wife. For a hobby Rudy bought a couple of small Koi, and kept them in a plastic-lined half whiskey barrel aerated with a small pondmaster pump. After his wife died, Rudy decided to move to New York near his son. Ultimately, he moved into a veterans retirement community (which I hear is too cool...golf course, great first floor apartments with nice patios, the works). Well, Rudy wanted someone to adopt his fish. So of course I took them. We moved the whiskey barrel and all over to my patio. So what do I know about fish...nada! Anyhow, now GUS & GUSSIE (I have no idea if they are male, female, or even their sexual orientation!) have grown. We have become rather attached to the critters, and find ourselves digging frantically to provide our growing swimmers the proper habitat. If I could figure how to upload a sketch of what we've done and what we expect (hope) it will look like, but alas, just getting this first post in was a big deal. Hi to all you expert koi lovers. Hi to all you newbies wondering how to keep your fish happy. Wolf

That is a very heartwarming story and i am glad Rudy gave his fish to someone who would appreciate them as much as he did...you need to go through the DIY forum for hints and info and pics of all kinds of projects concerning KOI.. But i almost forgot... Welcome to MFK and if you have any questions just let me know.. nice to meet you and best of luck.. :D
