Hi,
I'm new to this forum. I came here because I acquired 3 small bichir last week.
Introduction:
When I was 15, I got a 240l aqaurium with Malawi mbuna chiclids (pseudotropheus, labidochromis).
I soon got a 128l aquarium with 2 pairs of tanganyika cichlids (lamprologus).
I dabbled with a couple bigger cichlids too (jack dempsey, a 40cm tilapia, oscar).
I had a clown knife for a short while until I found out that it was going to grow waaaay too big so I returned it (was sold to me as a 20-30cm knife).
I had a guest brown knife for a bit in my community tank but found another guest house for it after a couple disappearing acts from its companion fishes
As a teenager, I really like the bichirs we had at our aquarium club. We also had some bigger cichlids, piranhas, pacus, a 1m red tail catfish named Fred (who on accasion ate a pacu, plus ate my 40cm tilapia), some silver arowanas and the like, but out of all of them, the bichir and the pike cichlids were my fav. So now I got me some bichir
When I moved out, I couldn't take the big aquarium with me, but I kept some offspring of the lamprologus brichardi and pseudotropheus lombardoi. I still have one lombardoi male left, after 20 yrs
His tankmates are 3 striped Raphael catfish.
I also have a small schrimp tank.
Last week, I bought 3 young (8cm) polypterus senegalus while out looking for lamprologus, ahem. They are in a smallish tank (54l) for now, together with 3 young tanganyika (leptosoma). The tank is filled with sand, plus some pieces of driftwood.
Tips are welcome, ATM the bichir get shredded frozen shrimp, because that is what is in my freezer
. They don't like the cichlid flakes. It's winter here, so no bugs to go around (I used to catch my own live fishfood, both from the brook and from the garden - earthworms and pillbugs make great fishfood).
grtz,
Saskia
