Gymnotus Carapo - mine was 8"-9" before he passed and was the meanest Knife that I had ever kept (only 10 different species, still fair number). Not recommended for a community tank like a BGK can be housed in, and may even nip at larger cichlids. Mine would pester 12"+ Oscars. Very cool fish, just seem best in a species only tank.
Looks like he's missing his tail/end? Or is it just bent funny in the photo to make it seem that way?

I have never had any problems with aggression except toward their own species, and only then when the tank was too small or their were not enough hiding places to go around. They eat just about anything, and seem to love bloodworms.
They can be tough when they are young, but as they get older they are pretty hardy.

I have two currently in a tank with a few Peacock Cichlids, Leaf Fish, Pike Cichlids, Freshwater Barracuda, Congo Tetra's, Rainbows, and a bunch of catfish and pleco types.

Pictured below is about a 9" guy, in the group shot are his friends a foot long Dragon Goby, a big Rhino Pleco, and you can see a Freshwater Barracuda in the top corner.
(I'm a believer though, most fish will get along if the tank is big enough, there is plenty of structure so fish can have their own territory, and the are fed properly)P9140138.JPGP9140124.JPG

He's not talking about the BGK but the banded knifefish. BGK are pretty placid fish, my 14" female lives happily with discus whereas I would not do so with a banded knifefish
