Hi, I am new here. I need help with what predatory fish (fw) is good for a beginner. I want to keep a dorado. To clear things up, I have never done maintenance or water changes with tanks (my dad does them) with tanks (yes, it's the truth, the embarassing terrible truth) but i will maybe be on my own here, so i will have to learn to do those things, I have plenty of training to do. I will have a 3 meter long, 2 meter wide, 1 meter tall tank in about a year or more. For now i can only plan for the future, and i need suggestions on what can be a good practice for a dorado ( salminus sp ). I have no tanks in my current house i live in, so once again, i can only plan. I did not get so much luck in the other characins section so here i am, confused, desperate, lost . Btw i like fishing

Welcome. That’s a good size tank for a dorado. My suggestion is research and get as much info prior to buying dorado or fish.

Welcome!
MFK is a great place for help. Use the search function to bring up threads on the subject.
Learn to walk before you run. Start with a small tank with cheap fish. Maintenance and filtration is a must to master. After that you can keep any fish.

Seriously. If your long term plan is to get into the hobby and, more importantly, stay in the hobby, and without your poor dad getting roped into the maintainance side of it full time, then i think you need to start right at the beginning with a beginners sized tank, not an olympic sized swimming pool!

On a less serious note though, part of me is thinking that this huge tank is going to be your dads baby and he's sweet talked your mum into getting it by telling her that he is getting it for you! You see, that's what us obsessed hobbyists do, we'll say and do anything to get a major upgrade.

Actually my mom is the one who is getting me it. My dad discourages anything more than, let's say about a 6 foot i guess ??
