Hello all, I'm new to the hobby of having African cichlids, it's been about three weeks now.I have a 55 gallon tank. I was wondering my fish tend to act freaky at times by rubbing themselves on their ornaments or their rocks. They also at times tend to shake real erratically, why is this? could you help a newcomer to the hobby of raising Cichlids. I've been told is parasites, could this be true. I've brought a chemical for it but it doesn't seem to work.

welcome..looking forward to seeing your africans

welcome, my south americans do the same occasionally especially my green terror. i looked in to it and found out that if it is not something they are doing all the time then it is likely that it is a kind of 'territorial thing'

mine would occasionally flick off rocks and also shake from head to tale, they would also bite on things like plants and rock edges while this was occuring, since they have all settled and sorted out the pecking order things have calmed down and it happens very infrequently (could also be a mating thing)

welcome to the site
