Hi, just registered a few days ago and have learned a lot from reading thru some of the threads. I've seen some great shots here.

I'm a professional computer geek from Colorado. I've been keeping aquariums for about 8 or 9 years, just got the hi-tech planted tank bug about a year ago.

Photography: I've been a Nikon shooter since 1974, mostly a people-shooter. My son was active in high school sports, so I was a track and field "photo-dad" for several years, with some baseball and football as well. I have a set of studio strobes and some muslin backgrounds, so I've done family portraits, high school senior portraits, etc. You can see some of my stuff at www.pbase.com/mlandry.

Well, after looking around at some of the work on display here, I decided that it might be a good thing to combine my hobbies and start to get some good quality photos of my tanks. I don't have quite the exotic livestock that some of you have, but this could be fun!

Take care, keep posting those fantastic shots & I'll see you around the forum from time to time! :-D

Regards,
Mike

Welcome to the forum, Mike! Would love to see some of your planted tank
shots. :)

Bill

ps several of our Mods are Nikon shooters, so you're in good company!

Excellent portfolio Mike. I like the planes, i know how difficult it is to get some of those shots (I work directly adjacent to Andrews AFB here in Maryland - right at the end of one of the runways)

Thanks! Yes, the planes were fun - I wish they'd hold airshows here more often. Blasting away with a D2h and a 300/2.8 at 8fps, you can't help but get a few keepers. :-D

Next time, I'll slow down the shutter speeds for the propeller-driven planes, to get some prop-blur. Live & learn...

Regards,
Mike

Welcome! It's interesting to learn how people arrive here. Some people start with fish before photography, some start with a camera first and some of us have been doing both for so long that we can't really remember which came first
