hi my name is jim and im about ready to start putting fish into my new aquarium. i have a 56 gallon column tank and wanted to put some CA cichlids in it was thinking like 3. i wanted to put a red devil a dwarf pike and a managuense but was told that the managuense was a bad choice. so now im thinking maybe a jack dempsey....any thoughts on maybe a better tankmate? i was also thinking about putting 2 catfish from the synodontis species and maybe a couple of small plecs like emperors. any thoughts would that be overcrowding the tank too much? any advise would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance

yeah, just looking for a little variety is all. my tank is heavily filtered cause cichlids are kinda messy, will these fish do well with the water movemant? (not sure what to call it)

Welcome to MFK! I wouldn't place a JD and a RD together in a 56gal. The RD will grow to need a 55-75gal. for itself. It will get very territorial and the JD would not be able to compete aggression wise. A Jag is also very territorial and will require a much larger tank. With those dimensions you would do better with smaller growing cichlids.

thanks gruff, i found out that a jag was a bad idea. and now the red devil and the dempsey...lol. guess i will have to research the smaller cichlids and see what i can find in my area.
