I have developed a huge love for the awesome 'loach' and I am so glad that I found you all so that I may "do my homework" before creating and maintaining the best home for them.
Thanks,
Caligal

Welcome, check out our bottom dwellers forum!

This whole site makes me wish I'd married a richer man :) For now I will have to be content with living vicariously through you all.

There are a few rich men on this site.....BEWARE!!!

LOL

Right now I have 3 Black Kuhli Loaches.....they are a blast to watch......I've only had them a couple of weeks now.....I have to admit that the only lfs I have here is W**M***:(This was the 1st time I'd seen any there (I tell myself I WILL NOT go by the fishies when I'm in there but I always do)anyway...I grabbed up all 3 and brought them home:grinno:.
I have a question for the loach keepers.......I got what is called "sand box" sand from W*M*.......would you suggest that I bake it 1st to be sure to kill any potential nasties? We had some 'builders' sand that I did bake (and thoroughly rinse)before I added it to the tank...I want to give them alot more sand to enjoy.
Thanks for the help everyone:)

I have had the best luck with pool filter sand. You should be able to pick it up at any local pool supply store for $8 / 50 lbs. I have used it in a couple of my tanks and didn't even have to worry about cleaning it. It's a nice heavy sand that settles very quick.

I had same play sand and got rid of it pretty quick...it was basically like mud and it ending up destroying one of my filters. Plus, it was a pain to clean. I used a pillow case...put the sand in the pillow case and ran water over the sand for 30 minutes or so to clean it.

There are a lot of threads debating this...if you want read more about it. Hope that helps.
