I am a 55 year old man living in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I have a special interest in Ancient Fishes; Ceratodontiformes and Lepidosireniformes (Lungfishes), Polypteriformes (Bichirs), Acipenseriformes (Sturgeons and Paddlefishes), Lepisosteiformes (Gars), Amiiformes (Bowfins) and Osteoglossiformes (Bonytongues).
I have a 77 gal., 38 Tall, 29 Tall, 2-20 Long, 2-10 gal., and 6-51/2 gal. tanks in my home. I am building a 6' x 4' x 2' indoor pond at the moment.
This pond will house my 3-12"+ Polypterus ornatipinnis (Ornate Bichirs) I just acquired. They are a male and 2 females.
I will introduce myself in the ancient fish room too, and would appreciate any help on keeping these magnificent fish (though I have kept Polypterus senegalus (Senegal Bichirs) before and do have experience with these fish some.
Also anyone have any ideas on water proofing and coating the plywood construction of the pond. I was planning on just coating the inside with an epoxy paint used for potable water containers but I am starting to see posts at sites about this method where the paint is getting scratched and leaving the plywood vulnerable.
