Just wondered if anyone has been stung and potentially how dangerous are these fish in a aquarium

Take a look at the sticky on safety for more information on being stung. If it happens, go the hospital, even if you think everything's ok-- a little piece of barb in a wound can cause a serious infection. It's nothing to take lightly. And be careful.

No I know I have seen some nasty rays on river monsters I know there no laughing matter. I dont plan on getting one its just curiosity so many people have these beautiful creatures n I never read or hear of people getting stung by theres.

Got nicked from a newborn pup when transferring to new tank. I felt sick for the rest of the night and throbbed for three days. I am sure I will eventually take a full barb, as with venomous snakes it is just a matter of time. Glad wife is a nurse.

Isn't the procedure supposed to be to run the hottest water you can take over the wound/ spot?

FW stingray barbs do contain toxins. I have 2 motoros and I did plenty of research on this before getting them. I've never been stung but from what I've read, a stingray envenomation is apparently really painful for some time and can cause neurological issues for a few weeks to months after the sting but is rarely ever permanent. My rays quickly got used to my hands being in the tank and will eat out of my hands and never have tried to sting me expect for when I first got them and tried to "pet" them (me being dumb). I can now touch them and they aren't bothered.
