Hi! I'm about to get a SLF, and I was wondering if I have to take any measures regarding hibernation. Should there be a thick layer of mud at the bottom of the tank or something like that?

I was also wondering how much food I should give him/her per day. I'm not looking forward to make it grow as fast as possible, as I've read on other threads. My tank is not thaaaaat big, so I'd prefer to keep it small for as long as possible.

thanks!!!

Noe

If you keep your nitrates high and the LF half starved, it will not grow quickly. This near death state should keep it small for an unnaturally long time.

I don't want to starve it!!! I just want it to have a normal growth rate, not accelerated by the type of food I provide!

don't even worry about anything like that

there hibernation has nothing to do with cold weather they go into hibernation when there water source evaporates basically the opposite of anything else instead of cold wet weather they put the ole sleep cap on for extreme heat and lack of water they burrow down into the mud and until the next rain comes and fills their river back up

Correct.

If you lungfish is healthy and you take good care of it, it wil grow...so if you don't want a fish that grows big and fast I sugest you look for another type of fish. (just my 2 cents)

:iagree:
I just had more fun answering the question the way it was asked. Don't get angry :angryfire. If the person really wants a pet, they will treat it the way it should be treated. Plus, have you ever seen a stunted fish? They are so much smaller than a healthy fish (facetious... don't flame me).
