That is a recognized disease. There was a story about someone having hickups for years, going through all types of therapy and she was not able to make them stop. Surgeries later she finally stopped. Can you imagine the nxt time she got a hickup, she probably thought the nightmare was coming back...

Btw, the term is "singultus"

there was a similar case to this a while ago in the news..

I couldn't help but think as bad as that was, it could have been much worse.
