What if I were to take 2 35watt HID lights with projectors, wired em up to a ac/dc converter and used em for the fish tank. My car runs these and they light up the road dam good, how would they do for a fish tank?

ya ya I got to much time on my hands and the minds running after I failed on the led setup.

I was just curious if anyone has tried it as well. I personally think it would put out way too much light causing your fish to become bleached out and possibly blind. But it's fun to think about.

Sent from my mind to my fingers to my phone to the MFK servers to you

I mean you can just find a good 12V power supply and run them.

I personally think LEDs or florescents are better for aquarium use. The HIDs don't really put out more lumens per watt than florescent or LED, they just put the light out in a more compact way which works better for automotive headlights.

Also, HIDs don't really have very good longevity. Most manufacturers rate them for ~3,000 hours, which means for aquarium use, you'd be replacing the bulbs about once a year.
