I bought a pair of blackbelts and put them in mu CA pond. I have not seen them since...the dont even come out to eat. They are the biggest fish in there! The only way I can see them is by netting them out their caves... They have been in there for 2 weeks now. Anyone else got timid ones?

I had one that was timid for a couple days, but not two weeks! I'm out of ideas on that one.

nope

how big and what's with 'em? are they a pr?

They are about 7 inches. The are in with cons and 3 JD's and a handful of firemouths. 2 of the cons are the same size as them, but other than that they are easily the biggest in the pond. The firemouths are only 2 inches and seem fine, are out and swimming about all the time, so I dont think its the cons bullying! They dont tend to discriminate in their hate. as are the JD's at 3 inches.

They will become more comfortable with their surroundings if you quit sticking the net in their face.

Thanks for the helpful comment. If you add a new fish to a pond and dont see them for more than a couple of days, it is considered a good idea to net them out and inspect their health. The last thing you want is dead fish rotting in a cave...not good for water quality.

he said no they dont come out to eat

Honestly I have never seen a Shy BB. Mine was shy for maybe 4 or 5 days and wouldn't come out of his cave but now he swims around like home. Funny thing is he is 6" long and my little male White con maybe just pushin an inch is the dominant one. He struts around with his little gills flared like he's the $h!& lol!

Just been up to feed them and the BB's came out for like 5 seconds and ate before going back in their separate caves! Thats the fist time I've seen them eat! Well I guess they must have been eating cause the male seems to have grown some already. His colours are lush too so he cant be too stressed...guess hes just taking his time settling in!!! Two weeks though, thats got to be a record!

cross127...thats why I LOVE cons!!!!
