ALright, I could go on for ever on this but I got a life and dont want to get myself all ruffled. However, when I think of patrolling the highway I picture driving up and down it looking for trouble and being noticed to keep ppl from doing bad things and speeding.

Now, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS, the CHP are hiding in the perfect little corner or below or just on the other side of a hill to sneak attack the speeder and site them. The same speeder who probably has been speeding for the last 10 miles almost causing wrecks because thier is no CHP actually being seen out in the open. We all know that after the speeder gets a ticket he will do it again,especially if they got money.

The CHP makes the money on the ticket, whatever, how about weighing out the difference between hiding and popping the speeder now and then. Or,,,,,,,,,,,Driving around and being seen to keep it from happening in the first place. Someone please fill me in, by the way I havnt had a ticket for over 6 or 7 years so this is not out of being bitter by that.

CHP= Can't Handle Police work =)

I understand your point, instead of hiding and waiting for something to happened. CHP should be literally on the highway to deter/preventing ie accidents.speeders from happening. Good point. I live in the Bay Area.

i think its actually illegal for cops to do that. because there suppose to be exposed in the open and not hiding.but it happens and nothing we can do about it.

There's a little road between Visalia and Corcoran CA that meanders through cornfields. I had a very clear view--there were no cars to be seen in either direction--when I "straightened out" a curve, partially crossing over a double yellow line. A CHP came out of no where--he had to have been hiding in a corn field--and gave me a ticket. Later, I learned that a friend had also got a ticket at the same spot for doing the same thing. That was 22 years ago, but it's still a little annoying.

Did the cops stop you in a ufo or something?

radar detectors. they work :)

yeah I know but still, why are they doing this instead of showing themselves and stopping speeding in the first place?

to give out tickets. harder for them to write tickets when there exposed cuz when people see cops they slow down and get scare.

Oh my gosh how I hate it when there is a cop driving around and people do 10mph under the speed limit cause they are scared or they just refuse to pass him when he's not doing the speed limit. But anyway I think they should do a little bit of both. I think the only thing that slows many people down is the fear of getting a ticket and I don't think they would have as much of that fear if the cops never hid for speed traps. So as much as I don't like it, it's probably the right thing for them to do.
