Curious if anyone has any tips on hiding heaters in closed loop system. Maybe suggestions with pics. I have seen some fake rock heater covers on the website universalrocks, not sure if anyone has tried that.

Also any suggested one places that sell 3D backgrounds? Not a fan of universalrocks backgrounds. The website https://aquadecorbackgrounds.com/ has some gorgeous backgrounds but when I priced one out it was like $1k. Looking for something that simulates lots of tree roots.

Black heaters on a black background always works for me, a 3D background is definitely cool but like you said, it can be expensive.

I'm assuming you'll be using a cansiter and not a sump, if thats the case, there's always the option of in line heaters.

Good luck and make sure to post pics when you find your solution

By closed loop, do you mean non-sump?
I almost always put heaters in sumps, in what I might consider "display" type tanks,
and with a background, there must be flow thru areas so the heat is not concentrated behind the background.
I actually put powerhead near heaters hidden, and drilled holes for the effluent of the powerhead, and sliced ports in the backgrounds for back flow, and which had to be regularly cleaned to prevent getting plugged up.

I didn't like how much space the background took up in the tank, and ditched it after a while.

On our 300 gallon tank, we have a capped off overflow box that our sump return flows into. We have a heater in there. If you are going HMF, couldn't you make something similar looking on the other side of the tank for your heater? Perhaps you could direct one of your Ultima returns in it....just a thought, anyway....

If I go hmf, heaters can be hidden behind it no problem. Trying to figure out if there is a way for me to just ultima and manage to hide the heaters.

One idea I have is using decorations. Below is a link to a tree stump from universal rocks. This may be a good option as the tree is backless and hollow. Essentially designed to be pushed up against the back of the tank but still allows water to freely flow behind it. I could potentially place the heaters behind the tree stump and no one will notice.
