Hi Folks, yup another evaporation what do "you do" discussion. With summer time in the states I'm noticing my water evaporation has increased significantly. The overflow water level is about 2" below my trick stand-by. I have tank lids (with some holes) as well as on the sump. I have an ATO for my sump so I'm covered (as long as I keep the back-up filled). But this doesn't address the evaporation in the display itself. Is something off here?

I'd like to hear what others do to address this as I'm always open to new ideas here. I do get ol' fashion top it off and/or do more frequent WC ;-) Just looking for other experiences here...Thanks.

I like evaporation exactly 5 gallons vanish every week like clockwork which is my min where I need my sump to be at. I just add water once I do water changes or just top off. I don't do lids since I have a high canopy

it's not always based on seasons, but how you heat/cool your house/shop as well. We run central air and the condensation hose simply goes into a 5 gallon bucket and when it gets full, I use the exact same water to top off the tanks a good part of it just came evaporated from

That's true FC. I mentioned season, as all tank variables constant, the one key thing that changes in the heat in my house due to the summer whether.

I find that my ATO keeps my sump constant, which then keeps my display stable. However, the water within the internal overlow does get evaporated. I don't see a leak anywhere...that was my first thought...LOL

Honestly though, just hit me. Drop your tank temp a few degrees and keep your house a little warmer than you would. Closer those two numbers, the less evaporation.

It is very dry here in utah so we use an evaporative cooler. I have not had much of a problem with aquarium water evaporating during the summer.

I attach a plastic liner over my tank and sump thats not visible because it has a canopy and stand.

Never have to worry about evaporation.

I never see the evaporation affect the display always in the sumps
