Hi my tap water varies between 30 and 40 mg/l, anyone use resin filters on water change water, don't want to go down ro route as wasteful and its jut nitrates that are the problem, water in south of uk is high nitrate due to intensive farming ( was a farm worker for 33 years).

You could use photos to consume it, they grow fast and work with almost any fish
A deep sand substrate of about 10 cm would work too by turning the nitrates into nitrogen gas in the anaerobic layer.

But if I was you I would embrace the free nitrates and make some nice heavily planted tanks.
