I’m working on restocking my 36 gallon planted tank after an O2 mishap killed of a Amazon puffer and some tetras.
I’m definitely going to beef the tetra school up a bit and probably pick up a molly (to add to the 2 + juvie I have).
I was thinking about adding a cichlid of sorts, preferably a dwarf, but wasn’t sure what kind to go with. The pH normally sits at 7.5-7.6, so rams and apistos are off the table. I really like dwarf acaras (specifically anomola - but those are largely out of stock everywhere).
The other caveat is that it would have to play nice with Amazon puffers.
The current stocking is:
2 Amazon puffers
1 BN pleco
2 serpae tetras (plan to raise to 5-6)
3 mollies (plan to add another - subject to change).
3? Y. Eos
1 Y. Morleti
Any ideas on a good cichlid I can add? Anything else that fits the bill? Or am I best leaving that out (sigh…the responsible thing)?

Checkerboard cichlids are pretty cool.

If you’re okay with mixing continents- what about Buffalo heads?

perhaps you can do what I did which is specifically select a female convict cichlid (normal color, pink, platinum etc.) because u know they grow small (up to 4 inches) yet they still have the personality of any other medium-large cichlid.
Convict may be a bit mean (but I do like the thought), I was thinking of hrp.
My female con runs the tank that she’s in (or at least she thinks so).

One of my favorites that is seldom available but totally worth getting is Archocentrus Centrarchus.
My male is 5/6 years old about 4” and has a green body, black bars and baby blue belly

my female con runs my 29 gallon tank, but after the first few days that I put her in the tank, she showed little aggression to the other fish mostly because none of the other fish could challenge her.

wait actually she doesn't run the tank, my pleco does

Personally would call it full if you add the things you are mentioning without the cichlid. If you wanted to, nanoluteus would probably be the only CA cichlid I would consider, but think with full grown pair of nano's it would be crowded. They are the smallest CA cichlid but I've still seen some chunky 4-5" males when kept in bigger tanks. A single female would likely be fine, if you can find one
