Mines @ 7.2. Have tried using PH Decreaser and i cant get it any lower. Any ideas?

The PH levels coming out of my tap water are generally high so i am always fighting this problem.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thank you!
Fletcher

It is a bad idea to lower pH using chemicals because it is a very unstable way of doing it thus you end up stressing your fish and can even end up killing them. The best way to lower your pH would be adding driftwood to your fish tank and/or peat to your filter media both of which you should find in your local fish store.

What kind of fish do you plan on keeping? 7.2 should be fine for most of them.

Hi Fletcher,

Try adding some driftwood to the tank. Or you can add peat to your filters. That will lower the pH. Oh yeah, its pH with a lower case p, and a capital H.
Hope that helps, good luck!!!!!! :)

What fish are you planning to keep?

Vitality beat me to the punch :)

wait wait wait, is 7.2 whats coming out of your tap or is 7.2 the pH of your tank? im confused

Why do you want to lower it?

7.2 is only just above neutral, you don't need to lower it, I've kept a large variety of fish at 7.5, mainly from the amazon, and it's been fine.

For a start those african cichlids prefer a higher PH than 7.2
