Anybody build model rockets?

I run a rocket club at my school where we build and fly model rockets. I also build Mid- (E,F,&G motors) and High-Powered (H motors and UP) rockets. Most people that have built rockets are familiar with A,B,C, and the "mighty" D engines. Each letter designation has twice the thrust of the previous letter, so an E engine is the same as two D's and an H engine has the thrust of 16 D's.

Anyways it's a lot of fun, can't wait for the first launch of the year!

The pix are of some older creations, right now we're starting on an all-fiberglass, mach+ rocket that should take at least a K motor.

Cool stuff man! Its to bad it will break on landing! True, a lot do. In my day, the D was the largest engine and if it was a duel stage rocket you'd lose site of it. I had one with a payload section. We stuck a mouse in it as a class project. The result wasn't pretty and served as a lesson in g-forces. My worst creation/accident was putting fins and a nose cone on a D engine and lauching it. It went 25 feet up and started doing the "wild mouse." I believe that was our last classroom launch. Good luck and keep us posted!

biggest i have shot were B-C's, but they were still fun.

looks like tons of fun. I worked at a hobby shop for a few years. We were a part of the rocket groups. We went to some events and its totally amazing. I still do r/c cars and planes, and have always wanted a r/c rocket.... maybe not a good idea but hey.

Yeah, a lot of them break on landing, but you can usually fix them. The "Interceptor G" (red, white, & blue) has flown at least ten times. Once the parachute failed to deploy properly and it got a little busted up, but it's amazing what you can do withepoxy and milled fiber!

As to your D-motor with fins, we've had a few kids like you in our club! :nilly:

I love the big launches, especially one that we have out in the desert in Eastern Oregon. They launched an M-powered rocket at the last one I went to. From a half mile away it sounded like a jet taking off, it literally shook the ground!

I've seen a few remote control boost gliders. They fly up like a rocket and then land like a plane via remote control, VERY tricky stuff to do right!

By the way, what's with the avatars lately?
