Hi,
Ive got a Channa Pulchra, it states in the spec. that it needs water temperature from 18c-24c, i am not using the heater and yet cant get it below 25c, do i need to worry? as we are in summer at the moment with winter approaching or do i have to get it to 24c, and how urgent are we talking here, if so, any suggestions?

Thanks, Danny

hi
dont worry mate, subtropical channa.its like seasons most of the year its cooler but there is periods where it gets hot,i.e summertime.
pulchra will be fine at the temp you are keeping them and when winter comes the water will cool down a bit.just dont use a heater.
ive kept and bred pulchra now for over a year, and have had no problems with them due to water temp, your in liverpool and im in newcastle not much difference in weather.

Can you say the same for blue assam and galaxy blue moonbeam?

Ive read it needs 18c - 24c, what i asked was do i need to worry if its 1 degree above? how to cool it down? and if it stays at 25c will this prove fatal?

Most SH are sub tropical. they need lower temps.
Galaxies REALLY need colder temps.
While 25 degrees won't kill them straight off, they will be less active, and the colors will be much duller.
Long periods at this temp most likely will lead to bacterial infections, which will kill.

I keep my tanks cool in the summer by slowly adding ice cubes to the tank over the period of a day.

Boost aeration and do more frequent water changes. At the higher limits of a species temp range, they're putting out more wastes than in a lower temp. Removing these extra wastes will reduce some of the stress placed on their bodies during these heat spikes.
