My temps stay at 87-89 in my 300 gal with 2 filters and 2 airators and the fish dont seem to mind, their metabolism seems quick though they can eat twice a day at those temps while I used to feed once daily with other tanks I had a long time ago at lower temps. Winter for me here in south Arizona will be back to normal temps between 75 and 84. Would like to hear others experience with high temps?????

I keep my growout/quarantine at 86 (hoping my little GT will grow quicker). no problems.

I built a fan cooler for my 100g.

just need a rubbermaid tub. return pump. and some foam filter elevated from the water line.

I ran tank overflows into drilled pipes that sprayed the water out and on top of a foam block (horizontal over the tub). the water would drain through the foam and be pumped back up with a return pump.

For the lid... cut 4 holes in the lid. I placed the fans over the pipes spraying the water. the other 2 holes were exhuast holes (furthest from the running water). all holes the same size ~ 4"

I picked up 2 fans from lowes that were 5" AC powered. once I turned them on the tank dropped 4 degrees in 10 mins. they might put out a little more air then a 4" computer fan, but were ac powered and $6.00

I tried another design running the air under the foam block... it made no difference. trashed the thing cause it was my sump for the tank, it just happened to make a better cooler then a sump.

if need be I could make a 3d mock up of it for visuals. it is really simple. I had no idea it would be so effective. I have ideas on why it worked well.

I have tried making something similar on my 180G but I just dont have the space. so I only get like 2 degree drops over an hour. maybe 4 fans will do it.

I've been lucky with my fish withstanding the high temps during the summer. My tanks have actually reached 92 (according to the digi therm)! Sounds ghetto, but I've thrown ice cubes in the tank before to cool it down.
