I need a high volume pump...1000-2000GPH and I want one that's quiet. Submersible is probably even more quiet, but it doesn't have to be.
Anyone have a good suggestion, or ones to avoid?
I wish they gave a sound rating on the spec sheets on these things...

I would personal stay away from Quiet One- ever since Pentair started making them they are not as quiet anymore. Mag drives also have problems ranging from noise, leaking electricity into the tank and heat. But in the end it almost depends on each model.

I am using a Gen-X water pump currently and it's quiet, but does create alot of vibration. I was able to quite the whole setup by putting a towel under my sump. Sometimes it's also not how quiet the pump is, but how much vibration it produces.

You can always insulate your stand also. How may feet of head do you have? Submersible pumps are more quiet IMO.

I have a couple of quiet 1 4000's and they're almost silent. (they were made by pentair)

However, their 9000 model is loud!

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm hoping this will be the only water pump in the system, but will have push water up 5-6 feet (depth of tank). I'm also playing with the idea of putting a fluidized sand filter in line there for maximum efficiency, possibly with a splitter and regulator so there's not too much flow through that sand filter.

I'm actually looking at just a regular sump pump. They're definetly cheaper. But they're all pretty expensive. I'd hate to buy one that I regret.

So do you want 1000-2000 GPH at 5 feet of head? Thats bigger than I have used, in an aquarium application with only one pump. I don't know how quiet you can get with that much water volume. How big is your tank and how big are your bulkheads for drainage? You can only drain approx 600 GPH out of each 1" bulkhead. Sorry if you know all this, just looking out.

Azoo makes one that pumps 1,300 gph at 1' head that's quiet, and cheap. $34 but it's also not the highest quality...

The tank is around 2000 gallons and has one 2inch overflow...I have this overflow set adjustable so I can set water level between 5-6 feet.

Blueline is a good choice for external (not sure of the flow rate on the largest model). Also, the Reeflo line (Sequence) is an awesome line of pumps.

I second the Sequence. If this is a low head installation like the 5'-6' you mention (are you including all the bends and any inline components?) then a Reeflow Snapper would probably be fine. If you want a little extra, or anticipate having a bit more head pressure, the Dart would be what I would recommend. Mine is very quite yet pushing ~1500gph. I went through a bunch of quiet one pumps until I finally went with the Dart. 3 yr warranty also and American made.
