Anyone have any experience with these guys? They look really neat as juvies but it seems they get huge and ugly. Any idea on the growth rate?

had them before. grow pretty slow. I have yet to see an adult one in real life. Only have seen pics of adults. They are not that ugly. Interesting peaceful fish. Don't mix with anything aggressive that will pick on them. They prefer cooler unheated tanks and can be kept outside in the spring and summer, maybe even the fall but winter is pushing it.

I saw em in a Chinese Fish store. In 1988, Dr.H. Axelrod was asked to judge a fish show in Singapore. he asked that Mainland China would bring a example of M. asiaticus. The fish got second prize. It was sold for $500 and eventually ended up in a German public aquarium. After that the fish became popular.
I love trivial Fish History!!! :screwy: :screwy: :screwy:
