My oscar has early stages of hole in the head he has one hole about the size of BB, I do two 50 percent water changes every month and have two hob filter each rated for a 75 and it a 75 he shares it with a sev. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

This may be irrelevent but do not feed them any goldfish/comets:D

:iagree:

stop the cause, not the symptoms.

I actually don't think HITH is caused by feeders, its more of that normally people who feed only/lots of feeders havn't done there research, so also don't know to do lots of water changes etc.

No worries just keep the nitrates low, under 20ppm and he will be fine. what are the parameters
ammonia
nitrite
nitrate
ph

Two HOB filters, huh? Filled with carbon I assume?

Stop using carbon. Fill it with filter floss instead.

Everything else mentioned so far is certainly valid, and good advice. But I have noticed a correlation between HITH and carbon with oscars.

Also make sure you use a pellet food that has stabilized vitamin C.

Good Luck

i do 30% water change every week on my oscar tank and filter the new water through a nitragon which takes out nearly all the nitrate and phosphate also make sure you hoover the gravel at the same time as this is where alot of infections start,my tank is 5x2x2 so thats quite alot of water and the tank is always clear/clean with hardly any algae growth
