Tried this on my dovii, he would spit it out, tried feeding a few to smaller fish, I tried to crush them to bits and found out that there difficult to crush, are these supposed to be hard ?

My fish chew them and spit them out and then chew them again too. You can try pre-soaking them in a few drops of water per pellet to soften them up first.

bigger fish or smaller pellets

ive heard pre soaking the pellets wastes some of the nutrients before the fish actually get them. is that true?

none of my fish have a problem chewing them,i can actually hear my oscars crushing them if i sit close enough to the tank.

my synspillums ate them with ease.i'm feeding my eel tails the large pellets now, after a few min's they go soft enough for the to start breaking them down bit by bit.with the medium ones though, they so take them in and spit them out,but same deal, after a couple of minutes, there soft enough to be eaten.

For my smaller fish I crush the pellets between my finger and the tank glass. Once you flatten them, they absorb water faster and the fish can eat them. My severums, festivums, and chocolate cichlid eat them whole. I use the small ones. None of my fish are big enough yet to take the larger sized ones.

I'm talking about the floating ones, by the way. Do they make sinking ones? My fish would probably like them better if they sank. My local Petsmart only had floating types.

I find a better variety of food at the lesser known LFS stores near me. Floating, sinking, mixed-I usually have to go somewhere other than petco or petsmart to get the better quality food. But crushing the bigger Hikari pellets works too!
