hikari fish food

i bought some hikari fish food super gold it says its for color and there the large pellets do they help and i seen another kind that was staples which one would be better and how often should i feed these to my fish
 
i have 3 jacks 2 JD 5-7 in. , and 1 EBJD 1.5 in. , flame back 2 in. , OB Blu. Peacock 3 in. ,
and some other ones i can't think of look at my 125 album to see them

Hikari is decent food. Two other foods worth looking in to are Omega One and New Life Spectrum... NLS has an especially good reputation around MFK and they make some large cichlid specific food.

To answer your question the gold will probably be better than staple. Hikari isn't a bad food at all, but certain people swear by the brands they like. I would be worried about your cichlids getting the large pellets down, my 3 inch oscar has trouble with mini hikari pellets. I personally feed my fish omega one, hikari, and San Francisco bay freeze dried foods. I probably won't ever change to anything else as this works for me and many others.
