Hikari sinking carnivore for JD

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've been using NLS and haven't had any problems with health, but Hikari makes a good product too and many people prefer it. Sounds good to me.

I was wandering, if Jack Dempseys are omnivorous, would'nt they lack vegetable content if they mostly consume Hikari sinking carnivore pellets ? The 7th and 8th ingredients in those pellets are dried seaweed meal and spirulina; would it be enough vegetable content ?

You can supplement it with a spirulina flake or tablet of some sort, or even some fresh veggies once in awhile. Zuchini and peas work well.

I feed my fish carnivore pellets but only as a supplement to their staple pellets. I think its best to give a fish a staple pellet that will give them the majority of the nutrients that they need. I could be wrong, but I don't think that carnivore pellets have the proper ratio of ingredients to be used as a staple food for a JD or most other American Cichlids.

I use the sinking carnivore pellets, on some of my fish. If you want to feed a good pellet to your JD I would try to get him on NLS, some fish take to it right away with some it's a battle of wills. You could use the carni pellets and also feed Omega One Veggie wafers, if they are too big break them up or if it's still small (I don't rember if you said it's size) Sprulina brine shrimp is good. They are Omnivores so should have a balanced diet.
