I know i've seen a lot of people live by hikari, but I have had little to no success with their products. Particularly their Algae wafers, neither of my plecos want anything to do with them and they make one hell of a mess. I also just got some cichlid gold for my new GT and JD and they won't eat it until it's been softened up by the water and even then they don't seem particularly crazy about it.

Has anybody else had negative experiences with hikari products or is it just me? Also could anybody recommend a good pleco pellet that could possibly be a bit less messy?

Ive had the same problem with the algae waffers but Ive never had an issue with cichlid gold.

The only hikari product I've been happy with is the carnivore pellets.

A great pleco food is new life spectrum h20 stable wafers. They last for days and days in the tank without dissolving.

ill definitely look in to those NLS pleco wafers cuz the mess the hikari ones make are just inexcusable, ima end up throwing them out probably

NLS is a good alternative to Hikari. I swapped from Hikari to NLS and it does make a difference like they claim.

Haven't tried the Bio Gold but my cichlids act the same way with Cichlid Staple. Even with the MSG present, they still won't touch it. No real issues with the algae wafers, they always disappear overnight. I think my cichlids prefer the algae wafers over the Staple. ;) Between them, the 2 Rubberlip Plecos and the Cory Cats, algae wafers don't last long. Even my Pictus will munch on them.

When my current bags of Hikari are gone though, I'm done with them as a brand except for their 'First Bites' for new fry. Will be trying out NLS next I think.

all of my fish are on hikari massivore, the only negative I have about them is how bad they make my tank stink horribly after a feeding

fortunately at the moment my 75 gallon is barebottom so the mess is easy to clean i would just expect more out of the algae wafers from such a popular brand, guess thats why they were cheap in comparison to their cichlid food though lol

My only problem with the hikari stuff is the main ingredients. Hikari chichlid staple first 3: wheat flour, fish meal, soybean meal. Hikari tropical algae wafers: Fish meal, wheat flour, wheat germ meal. Shouldnt the main ingredient in an algae wafer be some type of algea?
I have the exact opposite problem with feeding as my fish dont like the pellets when they get soggy.
