I was just wondering, is there a particular reason why only Potamotrygon type rays are kept/discussed ... at least as far as i have seen during my still short stay ^^

I have seen Himantura type ray (or at least i think it was) on the fish market (dead one) the other day ... i think it is pretty cool looking (spade shaped). See below (not the exact one i saw but similar). Picture is from wiki (classified as wikimedia commons so freely licensed media)

I have heard that freshwater rays in Laos get quite huge in the wild...

Less Personality..
Less Commonly available in the US..
Many are Saltwater/Brackish rays that produce insane amounts of Urea..
Many of them get very large, larger than most Potamotrygon..
Hard to Identify species so max size is always a concern..some get over 6' across..
Tend to be more finicky eaters and difficult to obtain weight gain..
Most people find their pattern/color to be less desirable..

Lots of reasons...

:iagree: The biggest reason in my opinion is the waste they produce. Your filter would have to equal the size of you tank and even then you might still end up with cloudy water.

Ok is there any other type of freshwater rays besides Potamotrygon, that anyone keep?
