Hello I have a 92 gallon marine tank and have been having a recent problem with my hippo tang bullying his tank mates. All the tanks stats are fine. The only thing thats really changed has been the installation of a timer for my reef LEDs. I have a hippo tang a sifter and a copper butterfly. So its not a overcrowding problem.

See the picture attached. I did my best to create caving and am going to add larger rock as well. I believe its Marshall Island. The tang disappears behind the rock when the tanks lights go out. As far as I can tell the bullying only goes on around noonish. I didnt want to add more rock because I wanted a lot of swim space for the tang.

a 92 is actually a fairly small tank for an adult hippo, they recomended for 180gal or higher, so if hes fully grown (hard to tell) or at least getting fairly large (5-6inchs) then territory/crowding could be a problem I don't know why any tang is listed as "peaceful" as I've found they can all be agressive. My recomendation would be make sure there is always alot of algae in the tank for him to eat/share (sheets, dryed, macros w/e) and idealy in more then one location, tangs like to "graze on the move" all day picking at one algae breafly then move on and pick at the next. If there is lots of food around he mite be less agressive as he may no longer feel like he has to share his food.

Hes about 4.5- 5 inches at the moment maybe a bit smaller. I do feed seaweed a lot as for algae i havent gotten much growth. I am not sure if its due to the tank eating or not. Im thinking of putting a few strands of seaweed on a magnet clip. As for size 92 is the largest I can go at the moment. I am building a larger tank (500+ gallons for my freshwater stock).

all that rock in one pile even with caves really creates only one main "territory" and for a fish that is often known to be fairly aggressive he's claiming the whole tank. try moving your rock around and adding some more and see what happens

hope it works out for you, pretty fish for sure!
